John Cullimore: Married for the money--something worth reading

John Cullimore of "And now...it is your block of wood" has a great post to help Christians think about our love for God. Ow. Remember the greatest commandment?

This is a great illustration of the difference between a contract and a covenant - the body for business or the body for and of love. The contract says God, I'll do this for you if you do this for me. The covenant says we are eternally joined as one. And we only live that covenant if we love. A very tall order but possible through abandoning selfish desires in order to be a channel of grace for others. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Christine. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

His blog is interesting. I'm trying to get a handle on where he's coming from, with the great variety of links he has - from Paul Pavao to the blog called Transient Glory.

John is a member of the same community as Paul Pavao. They all live in a self-contained village in Tennessee, which is their church. I don't agree with all Paul's teachings, but the way they live and fellowship is neat. They helped inspire me to start the ladies prayer group, which is building more unity and intimacy in our church.

I wondered who Lucy was! I was Rebecca recently, as you may recall. But I wasn't clever enough to switch identities as you've done.

Interesting discussion here with Pavao weighing in: http://youngevangelicalandcatholic.blogspot.com/2011/03/who-says-rob-bell-is-heretic.html#comments

Have you read the Rob Bell book? I have not.

Lucy is one of my daughters. I didn't notice that she was signed in, so I copied the comment, deleted it, and reposted under my name.
I'll take a look at the discussion. i haven't read the Rob Bell book. My parents have read it and think he went a bit far in some things. I know he's in the emergent movement and have heard lots of criticism of him from conservative circles, but haven't read any of his books myself.
