Baptist Haiti Mission: The Bakers in Haiti Blog

The Bakers in Haiti blog is giving updates on how things are going for the Baptist Haiti Mission ministry and their relief efforts in Haiti. Please pray for these needs and give if you can. The earlier post has a link to the BHM website where donations can be made.

I find their news frustrating.

When you read something like this, do you think they are lying about their successes?

I think you ought to drop the partisanship and recommend to your readership a relief organization that is experienced in the region, and well-supplied and already doing good work. These seasoned relief workers aren't evacuating at the first sign of hardship. The local news is about church mission groups who have returned home from Haiti already!

For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. (Matt. 13:12)

Do you think the Baptists are sharing the gospel with whomever they help? Is that why you recommend them? How many are they helping? Don't you care about the people in Haiti?

Teresa,
There are many organizations working in Haiti that are established there. Baptist Haiti Mission is just one of those. People should give to whomever they think will do a good job of helping there. I'm just recommending one that I know about.
The Samaritan's Purse is an experienced organization and is working with the BHM, so they apparently think it is effective as a base of operations. They are only one of many that are helping there.
The BHM is not just a church mission group it is an established organization that has been in Haiti for many years.

And no, I don't have any reason to think the CRS is lying about their successes. I haven't even read anything about it or said anything about it.

Hum, I literally just got an email from CRS ... I didn't even know I was on their emailing-list ... with much the same information as is in that article from yesterday and asking for more money.

"Consider a second donation."

There's a second collection at church this weekend, at all Catholic masses across America, for Haiti and I'll be bringing extra money for it.

Sorry for my tone earlier, but I really am frustrated by what I've read about missionaries evacuating, etc., like it was some kind of vacation that went bad.

The church mission groups who have returned home, which I know nothing about, I'm guessing are groups who are there temporarily and are not equipped to help.

Also, I read that since there is a shortage of food and water, they are not encouraging church teams, who are eager to go and help, to go into the country yet. They will need help later to rebuild. Maybe some are encouraged to leave if there is nothing they can do, to help conserve food and water for those who have to be there. The media seems to like to ridicule Christians at any opportunity.

Here's a link to some stories by permanent missionaries which may help clarify why some stay and some go. Non-residents are apparently being evacuated. Maybe many are willing to go if they have an excuse, but many are not willing to leave and feel that the Haitian people are their people.
