New Covenant Living: Rob Bell's LOVE WINS

Yay! I'm glad somebody I usually agree with has reviewed this. I'll read it later.

The tone of "Jack"'s review is scathing, as one of the commenters says. It is also uncharitable and unnecessarily personal. Too bad. I will still need to read "Love Wins" myself!

It is scathing, but I'm not sure if it's 'uncharitable'. Jesus, the Apostles, and the prophets said some very hard things to people. It may be something that needed to be said. I haven't read the book yet. I don't want to spend 12 dollars on the Kindle version, but my parents have it, so I'll borrow it and read it.

Yeah, I don't want to spend money on it either. Maybe I'll reserve at the library and be the thousandth person on the list.

The reviewer wrote: "Bell mangles the encounter between Jesus and the rich young ruler (Matthew 19). Instead of the traditional interpretation, that Jesus sought to open the young man's eyes to his own sins, Bell decides that Jesus was teaching salvation by law-keeping (41-42). "

Traditional Reformed/Lutheran interpretation. Law & Gospel.

If his review is even close, nobody should be talking about, much less reviewing, this book. Yet, everyone is. Or was.

If his review is even close, then it's scary that everyone is talking about it seriously.

My husband has been reading 'Love Wins' for a few days now also. He isn't impressed and has told me quite a few negative things about it, such as that it starts out with a list of contradictory things in Scripture, which seemed to Eddie to be undermining the credibility of Scripture. I'll post some of my own thoughts after I read it.
